Foluke Daramola-Salako: A Story of Talent, Resilience, and Purpose
Foluke Daramola-Salako is one of those rare Nollywood personalities who has managed to combine real acting talent with a strong, fearless voice for social change. For over two decades, she has remained a consistent and respected figure in the industry, loved not just for her performances but for the way she carries herself both on and off screen.
Early Life and Background
Born on February 15, 1978, in Lagos State, Foluke grew up in a home deeply rooted in faith and discipline. Her father passed away when she was just three years old, leaving her mother, Reverend Aderonke Daramola, to raise her. She hails from Ekiti State and has often spoken about how the values instilled in her during those early years in Lagos and her family roots in Ekiti shaped her strong sense of purpose.
She attended Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, where she studied and graduated before fully diving into acting. Even as a student, she showed signs of the performer and activist she would later become.
Acting Career
Foluke made her acting debut in 1998 and quickly carved a niche for herself in Yoruba and English-language films. Over the years, she has featured in dozens of movies and TV series, earning a reputation for delivering deep, emotional, and sometimes controversial roles with conviction.
Some of her notable works include:
- The Cobweb
- Olokiki Oru: The Midnight Sensation
- Test of Love
- And several other popular Yoruba films that showcased her range as an actress.
She was nominated for the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) for Best Actress in a Supporting Role in 2013. Beyond acting, she has also ventured into film production, proving that her passion for storytelling goes far beyond just facing the camera.
Personal Life and Marriage
Foluke has been married to businessman and activist Kayode Salako since around 2010. Their marriage has had its very public challenges — most notably in 2024 when Kayode openly admitted to fathering a child outside the marriage. Despite the difficulties, Foluke has continued to handle her private life with grace and dignity in the public eye.
She is a proud mother and has often shared heartfelt moments with her children, especially her daughter, who turned 18 in 2023. Foluke has always been open about the realities of balancing marriage, motherhood, and a demanding career in the spotlight.
Activism and Humanitarian Work
One of the things that truly sets Foluke apart is her activism. She is the founder and president of Passion Against Rape and Abuse in Africa, an organisation she has used as a platform to speak boldly against sexual violence, child marriage, domestic abuse, and other issues affecting women and children.
She doesn’t just talk about these issues — she lives them. Many people in the industry and beyond respect her for using her voice and fame to push for real change, even when it’s uncomfortable.
Where She Stands Today
At 48, Foluke Daramola-Salako remains one of the most consistent and relevant actresses in Nollywood. She has successfully transitioned from being known only as an actress to becoming a complete brand — actor, producer, activist, and voice for the voiceless.
Her journey shows that true stardom is not just about the roles you play on screen, but the impact you make off it. Whether she’s delivering a powerful performance or speaking up for women who have no voice, Foluke continues to prove that talent and purpose can walk hand in hand.
