Foluke Daramola Celebrates Democracy Day and Calls for Unity in Nigeria
Democracy Day: Building a Nigeria Where Every Voice Matters
I join millions of Nigerian both at home and abroad in celebrating our nation’s democratic journey and the resilience of our unique people, as we commemorate Democracy Day.
As this day is not only a reminder of Nigeria history but also an opportunity to reflect on the responsibilities we all share in building a stronger, more inclusive, and more prosperous Nigeria.
Democracy thrives when citizens believe that their voices matter. It flourishes when people actively participate in shaping their communities and when leaders remain committed to serving with integrity, accountability, and compassion. While we celebrate the progress we have made as a nation, Democracy Day also calls us to recommit ourselves to the values that unite us.
Throughout my career as an actress, humanitarian, and advocate for social development, I have had the privilege of engaging with individuals from different backgrounds, cultures, and communities. These experiences have reinforced my belief that Nigeria’s greatest strength lies in its people. Our diversity is not a weakness; it is a source of strength that should inspire collaboration, mutual respect, and national unity.
Through the work of PARA Africa Foundation, I have witnessed firsthand the impact that empowerment, education, and advocacy can have on individuals and communities. I have seen people rise above challenges when given opportunities, support, and encouragement.

These experiences remind us that democracy is not only about governance; it is also about creating an environment where every individual has the opportunity to thrive and contribute meaningfully to society.
As citizens, we all have a role to play in strengthening our democracy. Whether through community service, civic engagement, mentorship, education, or simply treating one another with dignity and respect, our collective actions shape the future of our nation.
I am particularly passionate about empowering young people and women, whose contributions remain essential to Nigeria’s continued growth and development. A nation that invests in its people invests in its future. By creating opportunities, encouraging participation, and promoting equality, we build a society where everyone can reach their full potential.
On this Democracy Day, I encourage every Nigerian to embrace hope, unity, and responsibility. Let us move beyond division and work together toward a future where justice, peace, and opportunity are accessible to all.
Nigeria’s story is still being written, and each of us has a role in shaping the next chapter. Together, we can build a nation that reflects the dreams and aspirations of its people.
Happy Democracy Day, Nigeria.
