How Foluke Daramola is Leveraging PARA Africa to End Abuse in Nigeria

Nollywood actress and social advocate, Foluke Daramola Salako, has continued to use her voice and influence to speak against rape, domestic violence and child abuse in Nigeria through her non-governmental organisation, Passion Against Rape and Abuse in Africa Foundation, popularly known as PARA Africa.

For years, the actress has remained active in humanitarian work alongside her career in the entertainment industry. Through awareness campaigns, advocacy programmes and support initiatives, PARA Africa has become one of the voices pushing for stronger protection for women and children facing abuse in society.

Foluke Daramola says the mission of the foundation is simple — to protect vulnerable people and give victims a safe platform to speak out.

Why Foluke Daramola Started PARA Africa

According to the actress, the idea behind PARA Africa came from years of seeing victims suffer in silence because of fear, shame and social pressure.

She explained that many abuse victims struggle to get justice because society often blames or ignores them.

“Many people are afraid to speak because they think nobody will believe them. Some are threatened while others are abandoned. That is why we decided to create PARA Africa to support and encourage victims,” she said.

The actress noted that abuse cases are not limited to any social class, religion or age group, adding that the problem has become a growing concern across different communities in Nigeria.

Over the years, PARA Africa has continued to organise campaigns aimed at educating people about consent, domestic violence, rape awareness and child protection.

The Growing Abuse Crisis in Nigeria

Cases of domestic violence and sexual abuse have continued to raise concern in Nigeria, with activists repeatedly calling for stronger laws and better support systems for victims.

Many victims still face emotional trauma, fear and intimidation after speaking out.

Foluke Daramola believes one of the biggest problems is the culture of silence around abuse.

According to her, some families hide abuse cases because they fear public embarrassment, while many victims avoid reporting incidents because they do not trust the system.

“There are victims who are scared of being judged. Some people even discourage survivors from speaking publicly. We need to change that mindset as a society,” she added.

The actress stressed that more awareness is needed in schools, homes and religious centres to educate people about abuse and victim protection.

How PARA Africa Supports Victims

Through PARA Africa, Foluke Daramola and her team have continued to support awareness campaigns, counselling efforts and advocacy programmes across different communities.

The organisation also works with stakeholders, professionals and support groups to create more awareness about gender violence and abuse prevention.

According to the actress, advocacy should go beyond social media conversations.

She explained that victims need emotional support, protection and proper access to justice.

PARA Africa has also used media campaigns and public sensitisation programmes to encourage survivors to seek help instead of suffering in silence.

Foluke Daramola’s Message to Nigerian Families

Foluke Daramola called on parents, community leaders and government institutions to take abuse cases more seriously.

She said protecting women and children should be a shared responsibility.

“This fight is not for activists alone. Families, schools, religious leaders and government agencies all have important roles to play in protecting vulnerable people,” she said.

The actress also encouraged victims to speak out and seek professional help whenever they experience abuse or violence.

According to her, silence only gives offenders more power.

How Nigerians Can Support PARA Africa

Foluke Daramola urged Nigerians to support advocacy groups working to protect abuse victims across the country.

She said awareness, education and community support remain important in reducing violence and abuse in society.

Supporters can also contribute by speaking against domestic violence, educating young people and supporting organisations that help survivors.

As PARA Africa continues its advocacy efforts, Foluke Daramola says her goal remains to build a society where victims are heard, protected and treated with dignity.
